!! TO THE PEOPLE OF FALMOUTH, PENRYN AND SURROUNDING AREAS- HAVE YOUR SAY!

The closure of the Ships and Castles pool in Falmouth has significantly impacted the local community, creating a void for many families and individuals who relied on it for recreation, exercise, and socialisation. The community’s feedback since it’s closure, highlights how the communities health, fitness and wellbeing is affected by the lack of a public swimming pool/leisure centre in the local area.

Residents of Falmouth, Penryn and surrounding villages have expressed a strong desire for a swimming pool in Falmouth, with many emphasising the importance of a 25m pool to facilitate both recreational and lane swimming. The absence of a local pool has forced families to travel significant distances, often to Carn Brea or Truro, which is both inconvenient and costly, for others their once weekly trips to swim have simply stopped due to not being able to to access other venues.

The community’s sentiments underscore how a 25m public pool has the potential to serve as a central hub for health, fitness, and community engagement.

Rebuilding a pool in Falmouth could address several community needs: providing a safe, accessible environment for swimming lessons, enhancing local fitness opportunities, providing training and job opportunities and offering a vital indoor activity for those rainy days!

The addition of amenities such as a café, a gym, health and fitness classes, community spaces and childcare services could further boost its appeal and usage among diverse demographic groups.

The community’s call to action is clear: A public swimming pool in Falmouth would enhance the quality of life for people in Falmouth, Penryn and surrounding areas by promoting health, fitness and wellbeing.
